SEG Derby Day at Paradise Stud

The first ever SEG
Derby Day was held at the aptly named Paradise Stud where
the weather was warm and inviting, the riders were excited and
keen, and the horses were happy and fresh
(some expressed their Derby Day enjoyment with a little too
much exuberance during the jumping!).
Our morning started with the Dressage phase, judged and
pencilled by our SEG life members Beryl and Clive Marshall.
The riders presented themselves very professionally and
received high praise for their performances and turnout. The
"Best presented horse and rider" award on the day was a
difficult and close decision but it was the smiling Rachel
Carden-Burgess and her shiny chestnut 'Just Perfect' who
caught the judges eye.
At
lunchtime, all the riders were given a map of the jumping
course and learnt 'how to walk a course' with course builder,
coach and our host for the day - Ursula Lang. The jumping
course for the Derby consisted of a combination of showjumping
style obstacles with rails and fills (including the SEG panel
jump and a Brick Wall) and a number of natural type cross
country obstacles. There were some logs, hay bales, banks and
the colourful pumpkin harvest jump. All the riders tackled
the inviting course with great determination. The judges and
stewards would like to compliment to the Juniors (and their
parents) for their politeness and good manners when presenting
themselves on course - well done and keep up the great
sportsmanship. Hats off to the courageous Seniors who tackled
the open jumping course, some for the very first time with
their horses ... it is huge accomplishment to be able to
conquer your adult fears and give something new a go! It was
a professionally ridden clear round (close to ideal time) that
saw Katrina Honeyman and Elmo's Fire take out the award from
the Jump Stewards for "Most Stylish Jumping" of the day.
It was an enjoyable day with very tightly contested results.
Congratulations to all the winners and riders who successfully
completed the day!

Jumping Clinic at Paradise Stud

We
are very happy with the turnout for our first Showjumping/Eventing
Clinic for 2008 - congratulations to the 24 riders and their
trusty steeds who bravely tackled the jumping, some for the
first time. It was an enjoyable day, with most riders
surprising themselves with how big they were jumping and how
much fun they had! Thank you again to our encouraging
instructor Ursula Lang for her teaching and use of her
facilities at Paradise Stud.

Quadrille riding
If you like riding
and having fun in a group of at least four riders, you will be
welcome of joining in our Quadrille 2007. Riding Quadrille
teaches not only the riders but also the horses how to
cope with different situations in a group, so it will be an
interesting learning and fun experience. We want to ride
different dressage formations. So if you are interested please
contact us
.
We are looking
forward to see you joining in. |
